Our Students
Our 120 students range in age
from 5 to 21, grades 1 through 12. They are both male and
female with diverse ethnic, social and economic backgrounds
from surrounding suburbs and Chicago. Although many possess
above average intelligence, they have poor adaptive skills
in an ordinary school setting. Problems include failing
grades, truancy, a lack of motivation, an inability to
complete assignments, refusal to cooperate with teachers and
classmates, lack of significant family relationships, and
alcohol and/or drug abuse. Students spend an average of 18
months at Joseph Academy. many of our graduates are now
living peacefully with their families, working and serving
as productive citizens. Some students return to traditional
classroom settings in their home school districts.

"They [Joseph Academy] have a very special and unique
mission..."
-Senator Dan Cronin

The Joseph Academy
mission is to serve the needs of severely troubled youth who have
been identified by school systems and agencies as needing a
structured therapeutic day or residential program.
For nearly 25 years,
Joseph Academy has labored to provide programs
with compassion and consistency.
Our philosophy is based on a service model respecting the
dignity and needs of youth.
Our customers are the Illinois local school
districts and cooperatives.
